SUMMER UNIFORM
Please Note - We are wearing RED T-SHIRTS with AA or BB Badge as Summer Uniform this summer, as these are much cooler than normal uniform. The smaller sizes cost £4.00, the larger ones £4.50. They can also be worn at Camp. We are grateful to one of our BB Parents for making up these excellent T-shirts.
CHRSTIAN AID SALE and SURPLUS PLANT SALE
The Christian Aid Coffee Morning at the BB Hall on 17 May raised a considerable sum for their funds, and we were thanked by their Secretary.
Thanks to the PFA Chairman for running a tombola at this event which raised £112. On the same morning a BB plant sale took £118. Both sums will go to BB Summer Camp Funds.
HOPE08
Please note this initiative to make the local Churches more visible as a part of village life. I shall report in the newsletters when the AA or BB, both of which are part of St Mary's Church, contribute to the life of the village. For example………in May…
Mrs M Gutteridge, a local Councillor, presented the village with a new flagpole at the Grange. Musicians from BB played the "Retreat" as she lowered the flag for the first time, to her great delight.
Christians Together in Radcliffe held a Safari Supper, which started with all the guests assembling at the BB Hall, to be served their soup course by members of our Company Section, dressed for the occasion.

SUMMER PROGRAMME
All Sections are invited to go over to outdoor activities from May 1 2008. ALL Members, AA and BB are asked to purchase a red T-shirt, and to wear it to all evening activities, and at other times when asked. This is a safety measure when groups are out of the Hall, more especially for hazardous activities such as Archery. Order forms for T-shirts in the Hall. Form and payment to Bob Jones. (Cheques made to 22nd Nottingham BB, please)
CAMP PLANNING for GERMANY: 30 April to 4 May.
Chris Bonnello and Ted Ward will be visiting Germany this week. It appears that the Camp already has 80 German children booked. Although we have asked them to reserve places for us, we may find that there is no room. I have now prepared formal booking forms by translating the EmK forms from German. If you have booked a place and paid a deposit, your place is secure, but you are asked to complete a form for us to present in Germany. If you have not booked by 29 April, you may well miss out. Note: No Meeting Fri 2 May.
CHRISTIAN AID SAFARI SUPPER, FRI 16 MAY. BB Hall
We have been asked to provide the first course for this supper at the BB Hall. There will be NO Band Practice on that evening. Volunteers needed from Company Section, wearing clean white shirts and bow ties, to be waiters, and two cooks will be needed. Volunteers can expect to get a meal themselves. Bow ties available on loan!
CHRISTIAN AID FETE SATURDAY 17 MAY. BB Hall
This fete is in aid of Christian Aid. We hope to have a BB plant stall, and offers to help with refreshments, etc. should go to Claire.
SAILING
We are negotiating with the Sailing Club to get the more experienced sailors on to a formal Training Course towards the end of May. Please have your record books available, and complete the Club Membership Forms as last year. We also have enquiries out for a suitable boat for BB use.

Ted Ward
Mrs Kathleen Ready - An appreciation.
It happens that I turned up a letter from the "Jeffrey Dole" today. This is a local charity originally founded to support local needy widows, but which has changed over the years to making useful grants to local organisations which benefit the people of Radcliffe. This letter was signed by the Treasurer, Mrs Kathleen Ready. It offered the BB a grant towards our purchase of Band Instruments, and spoke warmly of the work done by the BB staff through the years.
Mrs Ready died this week. She was a local councillor, and a great supporter of local causes and Events. Her letter shows that she was also a great fan of the BB. She noted the efforts of the Officers in teaching, and those of the Boys who were taking the trouble to learn the instruments. I think that she had, at the time, heard the excellent performances by our trumpeters on the annual Remembrance Day Parade.
We give thanks for Mrs Ready's long service to this village, and for her messages of encouragement received by so many people through the years.

ALLERGIES AND OTHER MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Information for Parents about Confidentiality
At a BB Event recently, one of our Staff asked if any or our Members suffered from Nut Allergy, and whether the cakes we were serving contained nuts? A check of the Consent Forms you returned at the start of Session reassured us that we do not, at this time, have any nut allergy sufferers. Nut allergies can, in fact, have serious results should a sufferer be given a food containing nuts – usually by mistake.
I take this opportunity to tell Parents what we are doing about this problem. Although we regard the Health information you provide on the AA and BB Consent Forms as confidential, we have to make it available to all Staff Members. We have therefore produced a summary Register which is placed in the Consent Form File at the BB Hall, and is open to all staff, but not for general access. The Register makes it clear to Staff which of our Members suffers from any allergy or other medical condition. Normally very few on the Register will be serious cases, so that it will be easy for Staff to remember the latter. We always have a number of staff on duty who have current First Aid Certificates.
We have to rely on……. Parents to make sure that Consent Forms are correct and up to date, that any Member needing special treatment such as an Inhaler brings it, and that Staff know how to deal with any special conditions.
Members on the Register to inform staff if they are unwell, and to have any treatment item with them.
We in BB and AA take a pride in the fact that we have always welcomed members with any disability, and have taken steps to help them get the best out of membership. This is simply another step in a great tradition maintained at Radcliffe.
